The town's prosperity was based on industries like brickmaking, brewing, and iron-smelting. Many of these have gone out of business however, the town still has a strong manufacturing sector. The Horsham branch is owned by the pharmaceutical firm Novartis. It was once part of Ciba-Geigy. The RSPCA and British television station ITV both have their headquarters in Horsham.
